A 42-year-old man, accused of molestation inside the lock-up of a police station in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming shampoo, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday at New Kampty police station, an official said.
He said that on Thursday, Sushil Jhabbulal Yadav, a resident of Kamptee, was arrested by the police on charges of molestation under the IPC and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The accused allegedly started shouting at the police lockup on Friday midnight that he had consumed shampoo and that the police would be responsible for his death, the officer said.
Sushil Jhabbulal Yadav was immediately rushed to the hospital, where his condition is said to be normal.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC, who has been remanded to judicial custody, the official said.
